Money Love

Long, long ago, there was no such thing as money. Most people needed to create the things they needed on their own or in community groups. At first, people started to barter in order to get things that they couldn’t create for themselves. For example, those that grew corn could trade some corn for a couple pigs.

This was fine when people lived in close knit societies. People generally got the things that they needed. However, there were many limitations to this system. If there was only one guy in town who specialized in fixing roofs, and he fell ill, then people wouldn’t have anybody to fix their roof.

Money Love

If there was a particularly bad crop of corn one year, then corn farmers would suffer, as would everybody else that depended on corn for their way of life.

As civilization grew larger and larger, people realized that they couldn’t simply exchange goods any longer. With cities becoming bigger and bigger, hauling a wagon full of corn three day across town in order to trade for some pigs was becoming inconvenient. Something needed to be done. There was a problem, and it needed a solution. Luckily, a solution was found.

Money.

When money was created, it lifted the burden off the backs of those who would otherwise need to carry their crops to somewhere far away in order to trade. Now money, very light and portable, could be carried anywhere, and used for trade in anything.

Money Love

When money was created, society flourished. Now people could specialize in what they were good at, and much more easily sell their skills or products for money, which they could in turn use to buy whatever they wanted. The pig farmer could sell his pigs for cash, and use that cash to increase his farming capacity.

Then an amazing thing happened. Farmers who grew crops realized that with money, they could buy more land. And with more land, they could make more money.

Money could be used to make more money. Real wealth was created for the first time in human history. Kingdoms and Empires now grew from small villages soon after money was created. People began to specialize even further, and this create another amazing thing.

Free Time.

When you specialized in doing something that you were really good at, you became better and better. Without worrying about where you were going to get your corn, or pigs, or shelter, you only needed to focus on doing what you were good at.

Which meant you soon were able to do more, with less time. And this opened up the whole world of leisure. Arts, poetry, music all flourished from having this free time, which is due to the invention of money.

Money is a wonderful thing. Embrace it, accept it, be open to its existence, and it will flow into your life like water.
